Joynture Spotlight: Michael Kaufman

December 5, 2014

In the past, we acquainted readers with x.ai and their brainchild Amy Ingram. While Joynture is an empowering coworking space for multiple-employee businesses such as x.ai, it also acts as a compelling environment for many professional individuals. In an effort to paint a well-rounded picture of Joynture’s diverse membership, we would like to introduce you to Michael Kaufman and his digital publication The Architechnologist.

Michael was a practicing Architect for more than 15 years with his own firm “that focused on clients who were technophiles and early-adopters” before he launched The Architechnologist. His unique skill set allows him to envision the role of innovation in the evolution of the practice of Architecture.

The Architechnologist is an online magazine “dedicated to exploring the emerging technology that affects how we interact with and experience the world around us.” The magazine follows the belief that technology consists of three main approaches to evolving the world: augmented reality, “smart places,” and the quantified self (including wearable technology). “The combination of these three pieces have the potential to create an augmented/smart/quantified future of personal experiences that are unique to each of us alone and connected to all of us together,” Michael said.

Michael lives in Battery Park City with his wife, three children and a Labradoodle and enjoys the quick commute to Wall Street. He joined Joynture at the beginning of September and splits his time here between writing content for The Architechnologist and advising companies that are looking for technological insight. Michael says that although a writer can work from almost anywhere “being in a physical location where there are people connected to the world of technology and innovation keeps me engaged. I work better when there are interesting and interested people around.”

He calls the relationship between Joynture members a “handshake between companies and people,” and sees this interaction as “inspiration, or the maintenance of inspiration, that prevents going stagnant.”

“Beyond the obvious benefits of having a professional office space, including great places for meetings and interviews, the resource I value most is the camaraderie and insights shared between everyone here.”
