4 Ways to Honor Chicken Soup for the Soul Day

Chicken Soup for the Soul Day is a holiday created by the eponymous publisher and consumer goods company meant “to celebrate who you are, where you have been, where you are going and who you will be thankful to when you get there.” It’s a day of reflection –and some even think a day of reward. You’ve put in all that extra hard work and pushed yourself to great limits to accomplish goals, and now it’s time for a little payoff (other than the traditional paycheck). Try one of these simple rewards that can make a big difference in your drive and mood:

R&R: Consider this the staycation. This is your opportunity to veg in front of your PS4 or tumble down the internet rabbit hole. Feeling like it’s time to do a little Netflix binging? Perfect! Getting away from work and having a mental day off is a great way to recharge your batteries and keep your ambitions in check.

Vacation: Sometimes a void can only be filled by getting out of town. Reward yourself by breaking away from the typical routine and sights. Changing your scenery (and thusly opening up your perspective) can make the world a much brighter place. Rid yourself of negative work juju by doing a little exploration, whether across the globe or in a neighboring town.

Shopping Spree: Or more properly known as Retail Therapy. It’s actually a thing. So long as you are mature enough to keep your spending budget under control, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t reward yourself with a gift every now and again. Check your accounts and budget yourself before hitting the shops to avoid inspiring regretful tears later.

Guilty Pleasure: Maybe your guilty pleasure is ice cream or tuning in to Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Whatever your preference, moderate this time by indulging your guilty pleasures after accomplishing set feats. Maybe after writing for an hour of NaNoWriMo you allow yourself a couple of Crucible rounds in Destiny. Perhaps after working out for half an hour a day all week you can have a slice of cake from your favorite bakery on the weekend.
